We are a close knit family from a small town in Michigan, that love to fish. Al, the family patriarch, has been an avid angler for the majority of his life. Other than spending time with his family, taking yearly fishing trips to Canada is his favorite thing to do. It was on one of these trips, that the Blind Fishin Buddy began to take shape.
Approximately 2 years ago Al began to lose his eyesight. Within 6 months, he was legally blind. On one of the first trips to Canada after losing his sight, a battle with a pike ended with a broken line and a lost hook. Typical occurrence, but sitting in a boat, replacing your hook can be a chore. Even more so when you cannot see. After 15 minutes of trying to get back fishing, Al had to ask for help. You can imagine the amount of frustration that comes from not being able to accomplish a task that you have done all your life. Al sat and thought, "there has to be a way to make this easier."
Al wanted to come up with a product that would help the blind community enjoy fishing, and give back a little independence. Along with help from his son-in-law, Al's idea began to take shape. By God's grace, and through lots of trial and error, the Blind Fishin Buddy was born. It is the perfect aid to build confidence, independence and to make fishing fun again, After all, the hard part should come when the hook is in the water, not before.
Originally, we designed the Blind Fishin Buddy with the goal of helping the blind. The Blind Fishin Buddy has even been endorsed by Leader Dogs for the Blind, in Rochester, Michigan. They are a non-profit, and a leader in training for the Blind community. If you would like to learn more, check them out at https://www.leaderdog.org.
Along the way, we came to realize that the Blind Fishin Buddy can help every angler of all ages. With it you can save time preparing for your trip. You can quickly, and easily recover from a broken line while in a boat. Needless to say, we strongly believe that Blind Fishin Buddy will quickly become your favorite fishing companion.
